This river offers some of Costa Rica's most lush and vibrant scenery.
It has its origins in clear mountain streams that wind down through the rainforest, finally coming together in the crystal waters of the beautiful Sarapiquí.
The low-volume of the river makes it ideal for white-water novices, as well as families, all of whom will enjoy its moderately flowing rapids, interspersed with tranquil stretches.
There are also excellent bird-watching opportunities as the river stretches its way through lush vegetation that is home to hummingbirds, toucans, woodpeckers, and scores of other native bird species.
You depart San José at 6:30 a.m. for a scenic 2½ hour drive to the "put in", stopping to enjoy a great breakfast on the way.
Our experienced guides will rig the rafts and give clear and concise instructions to ensure total safety.
You then proceed down the river for a mid-afternoon "take-out", where you will enjoy a delicious river side lunch before your return to San José.
